Lil Baby is an American rapper who rose to fame in 2017 with his mixtape “Perfect Timing.” Just a few years into his career, Lil Baby has become one of the most popular and successful rappers in hip hop.

Early Life

Childhood & Upbringing

Lil Baby was born Dominique Armani Jones on December 3, 1994 in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in the Bankhead neighborhood of west Atlanta. As a child, Lil Baby became very familiar with the dangers of street life as many around him were selling drugs and involved in other crimes. However, Lil Baby was mainly focused on sports growing up, especially basketball.

Legal Troubles & Incarceration

In his late teens, Lil Baby began getting into legal trouble and was in and out of jail. He served two years in prison from 2013-2014 for a probation violation regarding distribution of marijuana and theft. After getting out, Lil Baby struggled to find legal work and eventually returned to selling drugs to earn money.

Music Career

Early Days & “Perfect Timing” Mixtape

While incarcerated for the last time in 2017, Lil Baby began taking music more seriously. He met producer Coach K who became his manager, and soon Lil Baby started releasing music. His mixtape “Perfect Timing” dropped later that year and quickly put Lil Baby on the map with hits like “Freestyle” and “All of a Sudden.”

Mainstream Success with “Harder Than Ever”

In 2018, Lil Baby capitalized on his growing buzz by releasing his next project – the mixtape “Harder Than Ever.” The project was a huge success, debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Songs like “Yes Indeed” with Drake and “Drip Too Hard” became massive hits and made Lil Baby one of rap’s most popular new artists.
